Bryan’s Story

Site created on December 21, 2018

Bryan's journey began on Friday, October 26th, when during a routine physical. It was required to join the high school bowling team. During his physical, his new primary care doctor took a look at his back and requested x-rays. The results weren't what we were hoping and praying for. A curvature of the spine between 0 - 20 degrees is mild, 20 - 40 degrees is moderate and above 40 is severe. His was at 41. We were immediately given orthopedic, neurosurgeon recommendations and got the ball rolling with appointments. On December 6th, we met with Dr. Thorell , a neurosurgeon at the Med Center and then Dr. Hasley, an orthopedic surgeon at Children's Hospital. They got new x-rays, with 5 weeks passing since diagnosis. He is now at 64 degrees, with an 18 degree rotation twist. A brace is no longer an option. Surgery was originally planned for January 28th, but with the progression of the curve so quickly, they've bumped it up to December 31st. Not the way we would typically spend New Year's Eve, but will be with him every second he's at the hospital.

We just ask that you keep Bryan in your prayers, for this surgery and recovery. We're praying that God guides the doctors and the medical staff with his perfect wisdom to bring healing and restoration for Bryan. He's the most kind, respectful and loving child I know. I would give anything in the world to take this for him.

Surgery is done!!! Everything went pretty well. He's just into recovery. His eyes are swollen shut from a long face-down surgery. Very pale and "puffy". So thankful for everyone & mostly God, for being with him. Love to all!
