Bryan’s Story

Site created on April 8, 2022

For those of you who don’t know Bryan, he is the most active, full spirited, vivacious person you could ever know.  His career started at Richmond Ballet when he was 8 yrs old and, after the second class, mom was told that he was a natural.  He has spent his entire life and career professionally dancing around the world, with most of his career spent in the Bay Area dancing for the SF Opera. He’s kind, he’s generous, he’s creative; he loves hiking, cooking, sewing, photography, nature, dogs, and most of all, his friends and family.  His free, infectious laugh, and giant long hugs win the hearts of everyone he meets.

On April 3rd he was in a serious car accident which has left him with a many debilitating injuries and a long road to recovery.  The doctors are saying that he will be paralyzed from the chest down. Those that know Bryan know that he’s a feisty one and he does not take direction well, so I’m sure he will be working to prove those doctors wrong. We’re all hoping for a miracle.  Whether or not he gets that miracle, he’s going to have an incredibly hard journey ahead of him, and will need as much positivity, care, and support from the world that he can get.  Any assistance will be very much appreciated. Please share with anyone you think can help.  All proceeds will go directly to Bryan's medical care and rehab needs.  For now, the most important thing is for Bryan to hear the words of support and encouragement so please do stop by the Well Wishes tab and let me know how much he means.  Thank you so much.

I just noticed that some people are using the tribute donation function on here, which is nice. To be clear, that $$ goes to the web site to cover their costs.  None of that will go to Bryan but does help keep this site running.  If you do chose to help out with a monetary donation to help with Bryan's expenses, please use the GoFundMe link on the Ways to Help tab.

Please feel free to send me any pictures you have of Bryan that you would like added to the gallery here.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Bryan Ketron

It's Been A While! But No News Is GOOD NEWS!!!

Hi Everyone! I know it's been some time since I've done an update but it's because I'm too tired and/or too far away from the computer (AND TIRED) at the end of the day. But why so tired you ask?....... because I'm movin more and more each day!

-My days typically start with breakfast around 8am and I have some sort of therapy by 9am.
-I can dress myself now (shoes and all).
-I've been doing transfers from wheelchair to bedside and back.
-In PT I do balancing exercises, stretching, scap pushups, go from laying down to sitting up, weights (in the gym) and most recently the exercise bike.
     "How?" you ask.
They use electrodes to stimulate my leg muscles while strapped to an electric bike that is programmed to use its motor for the first couple minutes. Then the electrodes kick in and start to stimulate the muscles. After a bit my muscle stimulation will assist in pushing the pedals XD! Today I biked for 2 miles.
-Thanks to exercise group and my many hours spent in the gym I can use my arms and lift myself entirely off of my seat in the wheelchair like I'm using parallel bars and hanging from them which is pretty AWESOME.

-Did I mention that I'm EATING AGAIN?!!!!!! Quite possibly why I haven't updated in a while too hahahaha. I've been stuffing my face every chance I get when I'm not doing some therapy. That's also quite possibly why I've been able to regain such strength. Both muscularly and the will to live! LOL!

-I spend a bit of time outside in the garden and have been keeping some plants alive that someone else planted. The tomatoes are pretty happy and plentiful and I'm successfully growing some squash. The squash is nearing the length of my forearm and probably the width too!

-As far as my breathing goes... I plug when not in bed and went 6.5hrs (because I forgot yesterday) plugging. That's where I'm vent free and do not use a speaking valve. Rather, my trach is plugged with a little cap so the air is going in and out of my mouth as if I hadn't had a tracheotomy at all! So it's getting VERY close to having my trach removed and back to normal breathing through the mouth without a hole in my neck! XD

And this is all before I'm even on the Acute Rehab side of things so I'm doin pretty darn well. So much so I think my nurses have to watch me more carefully cuz they think I'm gonna run off somewhere by myself teeheehee.
I sure am ABLE TO!

I've been so busy I haven't scheduled many visits but that doesn't mean I don't NEED to! I still have my dark days (and I'd like to avoid any more) so PLEASE contact me!

Come hang out and let's be happy and fill me in about YOUUUUUUUU :-))))))

Much love and huge BRYAN HUGS!

Love,
Yours truly <3
