Journal entry by Bob & Kelly Fitzpatrick

Our sweet and resilient and brave boy made it through surgery smoothly! His foot frame/fixator hardware was removed and his tibia was shaved at the growth plate so that his growth is stopped. His right leg needs a chance to catch up with his left leg. The leg length discrepancy is one inch and and the surgeons believe that as he heads into his growth spurt (after his detethering spinal surgery in Dec), his mm growth per month will help his legs match up! Exciting!

He has been in a wheelchair for 8mos. So his muscles have atrophied and his stamina and strength are low. Prayers appreciated as he begins AGAIN to fight to walk strong and steady again. Bryan is in a typical cast until September 2 when he will receive his new AFOs (braces for both legs) so he can walk again. He resumes physical therapy this week. And he has A LOT of work, hard and painful work, to do before he is back to his pre-surgery strength from 2020. His goal is to ride his bike again (though we will be buying a new bike as his will be too small when he is ready!) and we are all cheering him on as he works diligently and tirelessly and bravely toward that goal.

Thanks for caring! And praying.
