Journal

I am so thrilled to share that Dad had his 2-month follow up appointment at Mayo on Wednesday, Sept 29 and we received the news that, by the grace of God, the cancer is in complete remission. The incredible advancements in science and treatment we've experience on this journey also certainly played a part. He has beat cancer FIVE TIMES in my lifetime! I am so proud of him, for his strength and perseverance in the face of such hardship and unknown. He will still be on the road to recovery for awhile with some heart function issues and some other things post treatment. But we will continue to address those as they come, as a family, and focus on this major milestone and blessing.

The relief/wonder/joy/gratitude we feel, the appreciation we have for all of you - your love, support and prayers - and this gift of life is difficult to express. Dad said it best right after he received the news on Wednesday, "FROG (Forever Relying on God)." God is Good.

But life is complex, isn't it? This bright shiny moment in the middle of this week was bookended by news of loss for Dad's family. Dad was able to share the news of being in remission with his siblings Wednesday afternoon before his youngest brother tragically passed away Thursday morning. Paul was always a source of support and a good laugh to help keep things in perspective for Dad. He recently shared a new canning tip that Dad looks forward to trying.  Please keep Paul and his family in your prayers. Facing the harsh contrast of another lease on life while someone so dear loses theirs is hard to comprehend. We find comfort in the belief that we don't always understand why, but that their is a plan for all of us and the promise of life - even after death - in Christ. We are so thankful for the time we are given together and intend to make the most of it! We are blessed.

THANK YOU, again, to each and every one of you for being there with us through all the ups and downs. We hope we return the same love and support to you and that you know our prayers are with you.

God bless.
