To say that I've started my 29th year out with a bang is an understatement. It seems impossible to find the right words, but I want to share with my friends and family that I have been diagnosed with a rare type of lymphoma located in my left sinus cavity with potential additional spots in my lungs and ovary. I am blessed with a great team at Highlands Oncology Group (HOG) that quickly got me in for a consult, completed scans/testing, sought out lymphoma specialists' opinions, and developed a treatment plan within a week of finding out the news. I am grateful for the quickness, but we are processing it as we go. I will begin a rigorous chemotherapy and radiation plan starting Monday, Dec 11th lasting 28 days each (5 days of chemo infusions each) for 4 rounds total. We will then move into a radiation plan thereafter. This specialized plan is to address ALL of the spots throughout my body and that is the prayer I will ask everyone to hold in their heart-- for my body to accept this healing and rid the cancer from it entirely. I appreciate everyone's love, prayers, and support throughout this journey. I plan to share on this Caring Bridge site and personal social media pages to keep people updated. If you would like to text me, I have changed my South Dakota number (605) to an Arkansas number (479), so please reach out to me on social media or my family for my updated contact info. I have some wonderful local friends that will soon be starting up a fundraising page and creating T-shirts if you are interested in donating. Details coming soon!

There are a lot of unanswered questions, but my story began back in October this year when I struggled with a more severe sinus infection than my typical yearly allergies/sinus issues. I have a history of recurrent sinus problems, but I knew something was wrong when I noticed there was no air flow going in or out my left nostril late October. I could visibly see something in my nostril blocking the passage way. My ENT journey began what we first believed to be an inflamed polyp that needed to be surgically removed for relief. I had to wait about a month for CT scan/surgery but my symptoms worsened rapidly including pain, facial swelling, and numbness to my sinus region of left side. It turns out that nearly 100% of all my sinus cavities on the left side (nose, below the eye/cheek, forehead) was compacted with inflamed tissue. I quickly had surgery Nov. 29th and thankfully it was all removed. We received the unfortunate news last Friday, Dec 1st from my ENT that the pathologists believed the tissue to be cancerous. Our week since has been a roller coaster of emotions, playing the waiting game, and getting ALL the scans completed.

Am I nervous to complete chemo and all of the things with it? Absolutely. However, the waiting game while things worsened was causing me the most anxiety. The occupational therapist inside of needs an action plan-- let's get this dang thing rolling and get to WORK. I am confident, I am strong, and I am brave. I have the absolute best husband, family, and friends supporting me from afar and here in Arkansas. Although I wish we were close to home during this time, we are extremely blessed to have such wonderful friends and my Fusion work family be so extremely supportive locally. Nick's remote job is also very flexible and supportive during this time. We are also blessed to be within a 20 minute drive to all the hospitals and Oncology centers I will need. This will be the journey of a lifetime and is now apart of my story. I am ready to fight with everyone by my side near and far.

With love,

Newest Update

Journal entry by Brooke Poppe

Hi everyone!

We’ve had quite the busy last few weeks so it’s time to catch up! But first some great news—my recent scans show NO active disease and the spots I had left from my last scans have completely resolved. God is so good and I am so proud of my body for tolerating the chemo so well. Although this is exciting news, the war isn’t over yet and I will continue to prepare for my upcoming stem cell transplant in June. I ask for continued prayers to stay healthy throughout this process and that my body continues to stay cancer free.

I started radiation this week! I will do a total of 25 sessions, 5x per week for 5 weeks. So far it’s going really well, everyone at the clinic is so kind and welcoming. I’ve attached a few photos because it’s hard to describe what it’s like! Thankfully it’s absolutely painless, I really can’t feel anything at all. The worst part is just having to wear my custom mask that is nice and tight so I don’t move. The whole thing only takes about 10 minutes which is tolerable!

We travelled home for Easter which was the first time we’ve been back since my diagnosis. It was so nice to see our families, especially our grandmas who are 90 and 93! They are so special to us, I think they may be our strongest prayer warriors earth side. We also hosted some friends this past weekend and it felt so nice to get out and do some things that make life feel normal. I still get tired and it can take a few days to a week to recover from all the fun but I know my endurance will improve. This is the first time in months that my body has had true rest from chemo, so I’m excited to see how I feel with time.

My specific prayer requests this week include normalizing my liver enzymes (still high) and my thyroid function (running low). Otherwise I’m feeling very good and happy with how things are going 🤍

Thank you for the love and support!
