Regardless of where we’d go, most of us would love to drop our everyday lives and travel the world. From living in our own backyard to spending just a few days in every country in the world, travel blogging always sounds like a dream come true. But how can the average person make such an impossible-sounding dream a reality for themselves and their family?

When it comes to running a travel blog, start with what you are most passionate about. Consider passions such as food, history, wildlife or someone closer to your heart. When you understand your reason for writing about your travels, you’ll find that writing comes easy. Following your passions keeps readers interested, and your following - and earnings - will expand. Do not write about what you think people want you to, but only those passions for which you are willing to go halfway around the world.

Still, sometimes, you don’t quite know what you are passionate about until you’ve been around the block a few times. Sometimes finding your niche means going through a few others before something really clicks in your mind. As long as your voice remains passionate and unique, people will continue to read your blog posts and tell their friends. Success is about passion, and that’s what people really want to see in a blog. Knowing your audience will be a big help in honing down on your true travel passion.

As you go through various travel topics, you still want to recruit a great website or blog spot for your writing platform. Even if your writing is interesting and unique, using a cheap platform that runs slow or has outdated designs is going to turn a lot of people away. Create a strong first impression, and really put your passions at the forefront of your blog. Be honest with your inability to choose a topic, but commit to writing with that unique voice no matter what.

Blog websites may not be the most important aspect of social media, but social media websites can be directly linked to your blog posts. Post regularly on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram (especially when you’re traveling - your followers want to see where you are!), and link to your blog posts. Post a photo of yourself in Beijing on Instagram, but don’t forget to let your followers know the photo has a few stories to tell.

Starting a travel blog isn’t easy, but your passions can truly take you anywhere. Use social media to connect with Austrian influencers and those in your local area, use your unique voice to tell a story of a place where few have been.
