Journal entry by Jenny O'Dowd

Brian has been working hard at Madonna and continues to have occupational, physical and speech therapy daily.  Brian saw his neurosurgeon yesterday and he said everything looks good and he continues to be pleased with Brian's progress. The CT scan showed a small amount of fluid in the brain and the neurosurgeon is recommending that Brian waits to drain it.

He's still concerned about Brian getting an infection if he reattaches the bone back in his head and recommends waiting another 2-3 months before proceeding. Also, Brian isn't getting a lot of movement out of his left arm and leg yet, however he is experiencing reflexes and feeling pain in his left leg. The doctor shared that he is optimistic that Brian will regain function in his leg, but it could take up to 12 months. He isn’t sure about him regaining movement in his left arm because of where Brian’s brain sustained the worst injury. That said, we’re optimistic that he’ll regain movement in his arm and leg. 🙏

Brian is currently scheduled to leave Madonna on October 15 and will get transferred to QLI for one month. QLI is a residence where they’ll teach Brian how to get around and live with his current level of function, which will prepare him for going home. Brian is currently scheduled to go home to his family on November 15, which will be almost 5 months after his accident.

Please keep praying for Brian and his family. Brian has made fantastic progress and we are confident he’ll continue to improve. Once again, we are incredibly grateful for all your support, prayers, thoughts and love.
