Brianna’s Story

Site created on September 9, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We wanted to make a site to all my keep family and friends updated in one place.  On August 14th 2019 at Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN I was diagnosed with Cancer (Chondrosarcoma) in my pelvis. While the initial shock was pretty great, I know I am in great hands with the doctors at Mayo Clinic. The surgery to remove the 4 inch tumor and the affected bone will be on September 18th. It will be an all day surgery that will be pretty invasive but my surgical team is very positive they can get clean margins and remove all the cancer. I will be in the hospital for a week to a week and a half then possibly some rehab time until I head to my parents house to recover. I will be using a walker for the first month or so then a cane for a whole as well.  I will be taking 3 months off from JJ Keller to work hard with my Physical therapy team to build my strength back up and about 6 months from Greene’s Pour House. There is a 2 year recovery time, but my doctors are hopeful for a faster recovery.

All things considered I feel incredibly blessed. They found the cancer early, its a low grade cancer, it doesn’t look like I will need Chemo or radiation and I am working with the best surgical team in the country. I have the most wonderful family and friends who have kept me from losing my mind with the diagnoses. While the timing isn’t great after mom just got done winning her own battle with cancer, but turns out there is no good time for Cancer. So we will just kick its butt now!

Even with all the news we have gotten over the past month it can get overwhelming, but I am so incredibly grateful for all the support of my friends and family. Over the next few months I would love to get messages from all of you to keep me positive and upbeat so any words of love and support would be amazing. My family is going to do there best to keep this updated on my progress and I will try to add things as well.

We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Cheri Espe

Hey everyone!
Sorry its been a while sine my last update, I have been getting settled in at home and spending time with my amazing family and having a ton of visitors. It has been so amazing to be able to see so many of the people I love. After being in the hospital for so long I really needed some friend and family time! Thank you to every one who has been by to see me you really brightened my day!

Recovery has been going well I am walking more and more getting stronger everyday. Yesterday Mom and I went to Mayo Clinic to have a check up with my Orthopedic oncologist and they are thrilled with my progress. I was able to get my last drain out which was a huge step in the right direction! not only that they modified my leg brace so now I only have the brace from my hip down my thigh. This has made me a little more unsteady but I can bend my knee now. This is so great for me it makes getting in and out of the car much easier and being able to continue physical therapy on my left leg. On top of all that great news I can sleep with my brace off I can finally take showers again!!! I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am about that 😆.

I did find out that I will have check ups about every 3-6 months at Mayo for the next 5 years to make sure the cancer has not come back. its a good thing I really like Rochester it looks like ill be back quite a bit but if it means we keep the cancer gone I am ok with it.
I want to thank every one for all the continued love, support and prayers they are caring me though.

all my love ❤️ Bri
