This is Melissa, friend of Kerry and Brian. I wanted to post a brief update here as well as offer some ways we can help support Kerry and Brian at this time.
As you know, Brian has been battling not only stage 4 colon cancer but also a very aggressive chemotherapy plan. I have been so amazed at his strength and fortitude through all of this. He continued to work all last summer as much as he could, and always had a smile on his face whenever I saw him, despite the tremendous pain I know he was in. I’m just as amazed with Kerry’s ability to handle all the caretaking requirements, Dr. appointments and much much more, all while keeping life as normal as possible for both of them. A lot of the unknowns that have been so hard to navigate are starting to become known. Brian’s cancer stopped responding to the chemotherapy, most likely late last fall. The other possible treatment options became very limited and are no longer viable. Karina and Melanie are now home with Kerry and Brian as they work together with hospice, and the support of family and friends to make Brian as comfortable as possible. I know they are all so grateful for everyone’s support, thoughts and prayers. If you are interested in helping in monetary or other ways, there are some options that can be accessed from this site.
