Brian’s Story

Site created on September 22, 2023

It is with great sadness(and anger) that I have to make this post.  I just figured this was the easiest way to update everyone who loves this guy, Brian Haffner  until I can make a caring bridge. Brian was officially diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer (that has spread to lymphnodes/lung/liver.) To say we are gutted would be an understatement. If you know Brian, he is one of the kindest souls you'll ever meet. He is one of my kids favorite people, the fun one, the one who is at almost every sporting event/ kids activity he can be, the grandpa who makes up games, scavenger hunts, writes books..the list goes on. We weren't at all prepared for his journey.  But we plan to be here every step of the way for this guy we love so much.

Brian wants to keep his friends updated the best he can. However, he is also having issues with his eyes(hard to read texts) and is dealing with pain/exhaustion/dehydration currently. Please offer grace if he isn't able to respond to text/calls. Everyone is able to reach out to Josh or I as well if they'd like to connect with Brian while we navigate this journey and start his treatments. He is currently at the St. Cloud hospital and will be through the weekend.

As one can imagine this has been overwhelming and scary for Brian and alot of information to take on. We are all still processing it and have many unknown answers right now. I personally am asking that anyone who is reaching out to please be thoughtful and positive support for him. I know intentions may all be well meaning but right now we ask that we just show our love and support for him and let his medical team lead the way with their knowledge and decisions on how to best care for him.

To all of Brian's dear friends, and collegues:

Brian's health took a rapid decline last night. Josh and I have been with him all night and plan to be here with him until his journey on this Earth is over.

We are asking that any visitors at this time remain family and close friends (please reach out  to us first.)

Our goal right now is to keep Brian comfortable and to feel the love he has shown all of us. Thank you for loving him. We are grateful for all the support and kindness we have been shown through this journey our family has been on.

Patients and caregivers love hearing from you; add a comment to show your support.
