Brett’s Story

Site created on January 24, 2022

Thank you for visiting Brett’s CaringBridge site. Here’s his story:

Brett had been having tummy issues for a while and recently, in the past couple of months, it escalated and he started unintentionally losing weight, among other symptoms. So we made an appointment with a Gastroenterologist and he immediately ordered a Colonoscopy. Brett had the colonoscopy on Wednesday, January 19th- during the procedure, they found a tumor (which appeared to be cancerous). Given this finding, they ordered emergency surgery.

He had the surgery on Friday, January 21st and the surgeon removed about a foot of his colon along with the tumor. The surgeon was very positive about how the surgery went. They sent the tumor to the pathologist and we will know more about the stage/spread in the coming days.

Brett will be discharged from hospital in the next day or two and then will have several weeks of recovery at home.

It’s been a whirlwind but he has remained positive and in good spirits given the situation.

Thank you for visiting this site and continuing to send us your positive thoughts and prayers. I’ll keep adding updates as we progress through recovery and test results.

Journal entry by Adriane Achey

Brett had his first chemo infusion yesterday. He was pretty exhausted afterwards but woke up today feeling okay. He’s still tired but not in quite as much pain. He has the medicine pump connected to him until tomorrow afternoon. He will do this same routine every other week for 6 months. 12 rounds total.

Thank you all for keeping up with our journey and for your continued prayers and support. We love you! ♥️
