Brent’s Story

Site created on March 2, 2023

Welcome to Brent’s page. We’re using this as a central place where we can update everyone about Brent’s health.

Brent was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer in Jan 2019, after having severe back pain.  This condition is currently treatable, but not curable. We hope that’ll change soon with all of the research that’s being done in this area!

After diagnosis, he initially underwent spot radiation to his spine, followed by 6 chemo treatments. The cancer was abated, however seemed to become more active about 7 months later. In Aug - Sep 2020, he had 4 more chemo treatments, which again knocked the cancer down. He then started a chemo pill (a PARP inhibitor) which  works to keep the cancer from repairing itself. That medication has been working well for over 2 years, however the recent events indicate that we’ll be looking at new treatment options going forward. Thankfully there are a few options that could work for him, and we’re hopeful that he’ll be able to get started with one of them soon!

Thank you for all of your love and support for Brent and I over the last few years.  He has always loved being surrounded by friends and he cherishes all of you, whether you’re new friends or old.

For those hoping to join us for Brent’s Celebration of Life in Chicago, we’ll be gathering at 3 pm on May 20, 2023 at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Bucktown. Following the service, we’ll continue the celebration at the Green Eye Lounge, which was one of Brent’s regular hang outs and host of a few of his art shows.

Brent had requested a party and for everyone to wear white. Feel free to join us in that, or to wear whatever you feel best honors Brent.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Brent’s name to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, or to a cause that inspires you.
