Journal entry by Sara Uhlenkamp

It's hard to believe that a year has gone by. During all the days that have gone by we all continue to remember and honor Brenda's donor. We continue to pray that the donor’s family has found peace and comfort as they continue to grieve the loss of their loved one and made the decision to give life to others.

In Brenda's words:  today marks 1-year Liverversary! Her family and friends are in my thoughts every day, but especially today. I am grateful and blessed beyond measure.

In Brenda's words: today at 6:03 p.m. on August 2, 2021, my life forever changed. I received the call that I was waiting for, they had a donor for me. The feelings of that evening and the days ahead, I will never forget. A family saying their good byes to their loved one who in turn, saved me. It will be the first year of not having her and I pray they are finding comfort knowing the lives she saved. She truly is my hero in my story! I am forever grateful and continue to honor her every day. I am blessed, and then all of you for your friendship, support, and love!

I looked back at her CaringBridge journey entries and read all the journal posting and comments from everyone and of course the first post was for the day that has forever changed Brenda's life.

Posted on August 4, 2021 - Update: Brenda's liver transplant surgery was completed around 10:30 p.m. and will be in recovery for a few hours before going to ICU. Her surgery went very well! Thank you for all the love, prayers, and support.

Brenda’s liver transplant surgery started about 2 p.m. today. She will be in surgery 8-10 hours. Please pray for her and the transplant team as they perform this surgery. Also, please continue to pray for donor and their family as they have given Brenda the most amazing gift. she is in good hands!

August 4, 2021 is a date that is forever embedded in our hearts and will always be the greatest day in our family’s book of life. The day that Brenda's life forever changed!

The past year Brenda has been able to do many things that she enjoys and isn't skipping a beat. She started a new job at Henry's Foods in Alexandria as a Buyer. She is finding much joy in her new adventure. We traveled to Nashville for a short trip to celebrate my best friends, Carey Young's 50th birthday. We took a sister's trip, with our mom, and aunt, JoAnn to Middle River. We stayed in an old schoolhouse, which was an absolute blast. These are just a couple of things to mention, but the list goes on...life is good! Life isn't going to pass her by!

Another reason to be thankful for:  my sister, Sandy, her husband, Greg, and their children Mitchell, Kyle, Meridith lost their home and everything that they had during the Memorial Day tornado that hit Forada. We are all family strong and find the good through what life and circumstances we are faced with. We have so many reasons to be thankful for. They are all alive and are able to share their life experience of how 30 seconds or so and can change your life in literally in seconds. They are navigating their way through all the steps to rebuild their lives. We are having a private celebration this weekend to celebrate Brenda and her 1-year liverserary and we also want to celebrate The Majers-Lieser family. Don’t let life pass you by. We only get once chance at it, so make every moment count.

God is good!

Brenda keep the sparkle it looks good on you!
