Journal

I was dealing with some discouragement recently, as I’ve had a cold, sinus drainage, maybe allergies, interrupted sleep, and just feeling icky. Then I broke a bone in my foot yesterday. Ironically I feel better and less discouraged now, as at least the other problems are beginning to subside and I’m sleeping better again.

Feelings can be fickle, but God is always faithful.

In all the little details I now see His hand at work, even though I couldn’t see it yesterday. We have friends from Texas visiting now (yay!), which means more help and good company even with limited mobility. Brad had a visit with our primary care NP this morning, so they allowed me to schedule an add-on visit AND they got me in for an x-ray before the appointment. (Love LifeLong Care!) This was so helpful! We also got in to the walk-in orthopedic clinic in Concord in time to have a cast out on and get crutches, and get out so we could pick up the boys at 3pm and get them to their track meet at 3:45pm in Bedford. Both track meets (the one where the bone actually broke yesterday, and the one today), were set up so I could sit in one place and watch the kids’ events. I was able to get around the house last night on my wheeled office chair from my dear friend Mimsey, and I navigated the stairs on my backside, just as my phyiscal therapist mom would have suggested.

I didn’t plan for these things - or needing to use my umbrella as a cane yesterday - but God knew I needed them. Even in times of discouragement He is at work. My task is often to lift my eyes past the immediate source of frustration to the Source of hope and joy. I don’t always do this successfully, but He is patient, and continues to prompt me.

I hope this encourages you, and also reminds you to pray for each other and encourage each other to lift our eyes up to the One who is our help.

Psalm 121 (NASB)

“I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; From where shall my help come? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel Will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; The Lord is your shade on your right hand. The sun will not smite you by day, Nor the moon by night. The Lord will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul. The Lord will guard your going out and your coming in From this time forth and forever.”
