Journal entry by Brittany Harren

Wow...it had been over a year since the last entry! This month marked a couple milestones. He began the process of taking growth hormones since it was determined that his body is not naturally producing it, due to the chemotherapy treatments. This will consist of daily injections for sure for the next decade and smaller doses possibly well into adulthood. Brayden is very hands on, sterilizes the area of his body, gets the pen ready and needle on and puts it at the correct dosage; but he hasn't quite mustered the courage to give himself the shot. Thats ok...its only been a week and a half and I have no doubts he will be doing it himself eventually. With this came a new mindset and planning. Since it needs to be fridgerated and given at the same time every night, we need to put a little more thought into plans before we up and leave the house. Like every other challenge that has been thrown his way, Brayden has not only accepted it but is thriving. He says, "it's ok because it'll help me be tall." Such a trooper!
Also Wednesday we headed down to Children's Hospital for another routine MRI, and then back down this morning to meet with his Oncologist in person and review the scan results. It's been over a year since we've seen his oncologist in person (typically we just do the scan reviews via telehealth to save another missed day of school and work) so it was nice to catch up and for her to see how well Brayden is doing. The results came back ALL clear. PRAISE BE TO GOD! It's what we hope to hear everytime, but I can't help but hold onto just a little anxiety until we hear those beautiful words. Now we sit back and enjoy life and his MRI schedule changes to 6 months. So we will be back in April when he does his comprehensive clinic appointment, where he does the MRI, audiology exam and then we meet with all his doctors one by one to make sure as a whole there are no concerns. On one hand it's a relief to cut down on a couple more appointments (and no winter driving in the cities), but a small part just worries because now there will be more time between scans. It's hard to believe we are this far along. We will continue to take life as it comes, be present and thank God for all the good things we have!
