Brandon’s Story

Site created on August 23, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place as I recover from lumbar spinal fusion surgery.  The procedure I'm going to have is called a Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion.  I have an L5 spondylolisthesis which means that vertebrae in my low back has broken and slipped in front of the vertebrae below it.  This slip has compressed the sciatic nerve that runs down my left leg and has caused a significant amount of pain in my low back along with pain and numbness in my left leg and foot.  For anyone interested, here's a link (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okNJPMbh_W0) that shows generally what the neurosurgeon at Duke Spine Center will be performing on me.

The last year has been challenging for all of us and I very much appreciate your words of encouragement, your help, and your support.  Thank you for visiting! Feel free to share this site with any friends or family that we may have missed in our invitations.

I wanted to send a quick thank you as well to all of our friends and family who visited to help care for Brandon or allow me to run out for errands or appointments as well as those that gifted us with delicious home cooked meals or had meals or gift cards delivered for us. I do not know how we would have made in through this challenging recovery without the generosity and support of all of you and I am forever grateful. Wish us luck in the coming months as Brandon works toward a pain-free future! Thanks again!
