Brandon’s Story

Site created on April 26, 2022

Welcome to Brandon’s CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.

Brandon was diagnosed with Merkel Cell Carcinoma in March 2022 after a routine surgery to remove a lump from his forearm. His second surgery revealed that it had already metastasized to his bicep and sentinel lymph node. His cancer was initially stage III as there are no distant metastasis, but it was increased stage IVa in august 2022.

This is a rare and aggressive skin cancer. Brandon has had several surgeries, radiation and has been doing immunotherapy since may 6th, 2022.

We appreciate your support, prayers and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Aaryn Frick

Today’s update is good, however mixed. There is a new small spot in the left chest wall, near left auxiliary (this is same side his disease progressed to and where he had radiation and major surgery.) It could be disease or just a lymph node reaction to immunotherapy. He will be referred to an ultrasound for a closer look and then decide between watching it and biopsy.

The good news is no distant progression. Dr Dronka still feels positive, but does want this extra look.

I have learned you don’t want the word “however” in your pet scan results. Nothing about this experience has been without mystery. We are living in the unknown. Outside the bounds of the bell curve. We don’t know what tomorrow brings, but today we press on.

Waiting…We are waiting for his treatment/infusion, then the next test result and trying to live all the while.

While listening to live accordion music … because every Tuesday the volunteer is here.

Photo is from a recent trip to St Augustine’s Castillo de San Marcos National Monument.  It’s very cool and a fun day trip.
