Brandon’s Story

Site created on November 13, 2018

On the morning of November 12, 2018 Brandon was struck by a car while he was assisting a lady and her young child whose car was on fire.  He was taken to Floyd medical center with broken bones all over his body and multiple internal injuries.  Floyd hospital was able to get him stable enough to move him to UAB Birmingham via Warrior Jet.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Wyatt Bishop

Update from Shae Bishop:  Around 3 am Brandon de-satted and his pressures in his head went to 21 (which should be - below 20). They tweaked the vent settings and everything came back up in about 15 minutes. They added back the propofol sedation medicine and blood pressure medicine Leva. They increased his respiratory medication epoprostenol to dilate blood vessels so that more oxygen can be accepted into airways. They did give him some platelets (These have been trending to be low probably due to the dialysis he is own). Urine output is low due to the dialysis as well. They are giving him Calcium to keep blood clotting the way it should because the dialysis can make the calcium low also, they are giving him a blood thinner. We may be faced with making the decision of using eckmo today. Yesterday they said no he doesn't need it but, this morning the neuro doctor said they talked last night and he told cardiology if it is needed then they have his ok to do it. Neuro says we have to have Airway, Breathing and Circulation. They continue to monitor Blood Gas - at 5:30am almost back to normal like he was at 1 am before he de-satted at 3 am. Please, pray for Brandon to become stable and that his lungs will heal so that he can breath on his own without the help of the vent. Please, pray that he becomes more stable than he has been the last several days. Please, pray that he has improvements to his health so that he can manage his own respirations without the help of the vent and that his lungs become stronger and the pneumonia clears. Our biggest obstacle at the moment is his breathing and having to have his vent constantly adjusted to the many changes taking place in his body (Some of this could be side effects from the machines and medicines themselves; yet he has to have them at this crucial time.)  Please, also, pray for our family as we make decisions and pray that we make decisions that are in Brandon's best interest.
