Journal

We have been home from the hospital a few months now, so thought it was time for an update...

The fundraiser that Brads sister Shauna put on was a huge success. Honestly it was mind-blowing how many people came out to show their support. I struggled all day not to cry. Every time I took a moment and looked around, I just felt this overwhelming wave of emotions, I couldn't cry all day, so instead I tried to keep busy, lol. I wish that we could thank every single person, and explain how much they have contributed to helping our family on this journey, I hope that everyone knows how much we appreciate every single thing.

Brad ended up getting strong enough to come home without inpatient rehab!! Coming home this time really felt like we were leaving friends behind, as we did form close relationships with the Nurses and staff at the hospital during that 6 weeks. It was a big change to be home after being there so long.

Since we have been home, his abdominal tension sutures/wound has slowly healed, still not all the way though. He also has a bad wound on his tailbone that came from being in the coma for 11 days. This has required him to see a wound doctor each week, and be on strong antibiotics. Its painful and he can't sit for long, or lay on his back, what a pain-literally.

He is in this limbo now, waiting for wounds to heal, before he can move forward. Oncology wants him to consider chemo for the lung nodules, we want to meet with the pulmonary surgeon and see what surgical options he has also. Neither can happen until wounds are healed...

Besides the tailbone wound, the damaged nerve in his left leg has been causing him the most discomfort. We have seen a neurologist, and are waiting to get into the pain clinic to see about other options, like a nerve blocker or steroid shot. The pain meds and other neuropathy meds just aren't enough. Because of this, he can't get around easily. He hobbles around the house, but he is limited in much else as walking is rough.

A few good things have happened at least. Brad finally was approved for disability, and I have another job. The disability process was long, but what a relief to have some financial help. Not to over share, but we also had to file bankruptcy, and hopefully that will help us move in a better direction, eventually. Lucas's dad became a partner at Snyder Performance, and asked me if I could help in the office. Its great for us because I can take off time as needed. I still work in the office at Network Computers, so to say I'm a bit busy is an understatement.  Brad tries to help at home on days he feels better, and the boys help some, but they are just as busy as me. I have just had to do what I can and let things go that I cant.

This last weekend was nice, we celebrated Brads birthday and Mothers Day on Sunday. I made a southern themed dinner( pulled pork, pinto beans, mac & cheese, and cornbread) which besides the beans, everyone likes! The boys found great gifts for Brad, and spoiled me with gifts and plants!! Lucas now is down to 4 days left of high school, seriously how did that happen so fast, he was just born!! Hope to see a lot of you at his grad party (invites mailed this week, and on Facebook)!

I have a feeling this is going to be one super busy summer. Me working all the time, Landyn doing his lawncare business, Lucas also working and preparing to move to Western, and our want-to-do list is only getting longer. Lots of grad parties, a garage sale, college orientation/moving... and the what ifs surrounding Brads treatments or surgery will certainly fill our time.

I feel like a broken record, but we want to express our immense gratitude to everyone again. The texts, the calls, the cards, and the donations have all meant so much. Our words will never be able to fully express how much.

Thank you, Thank YOU, THANK YOU!! Your love and support has really gotten us through this!
