Brad’s Story

Site created on November 20, 2019

It's been a whirlwind since early October. We have gone from planning the trip of a lifetime to Thailand on a live aboard dive boat in late December, to having a completely preventative heart scan (CT Coronary Angiogram) suggested by my family doctor due to family history, to scheduling quadruple bypass surgery. Since that first test, additional testing has revealed significant blockage (up to 85%) in all 4 of my arteries, a total surprise to everyone. At the heart cath in November, the cardiologist said I would have required up to 6 stents, which wasn't an option. The heart is healthy, just the flow is restricted, so everyone is expecting a successful surgery and full recovery. I've never had any symptoms and continue to not feel any pain or have shortness of breath. We are truly blessed to be out in front of all this and not dealing with any of it on an emergency basis. We started this page as a single point to provide any updates along the way, especially as we get into and through the surgery in December. Thanks for visiting.

Good morning everyone and HAPPY New Year!!! Sorry it has been so long between posts, but things have been moving pretty quickly here! Recovery has been going great and I have been pushing myself walking. I take 2 walks each day and yesterday went 1.7 miles each walk! I started at 0.4 miles! I'm not fast and still haven't done any hills, but getting out and walking has been great! The cycle is pretty much walk, rest, eat, repeat. I'm totally off the pain medications and have both cooked dinner and gone out to dinner! Sadly, my weight loss appears to have flattened out, after losing 20 pounds, but that's probably good also. All in all, things are going better than expected (IMO) considering I'm only 9 days post op! Thanks again for everyone's thoughts and prayers, as I'm certain that has been a big help in my recovery!!!
