Journal
Today I got the results from my first post-treatment PET/CT scan. The oncologist said it wasn't what he expected--IT WAS BETTER! No signs of cancer and inflammation is minimal! I'll have another scan in 6 months, and I'll continue to get "scoped" by the ENT about every 8 weeks for the next year to make sure nothing comes back. But the results are extremely positive right now, and I'm ahead of the proverbial curve.
When this started, I put a couple of goals before myself: to get to the beach with some dear friends, and to get to Noah and Taylor's wedding in August. Well, the beach was last week, and it was awesome! I didn't have the energy to do as much there as I would have liked, but a bad day at the beach beats a great day at work! Next week we'll leave for the wedding in Indiana. I can't wait to get there. It will be a blessing many times over.
I look forward to recovering my energy and getting back to the point where I can do some real exercise. I now have some new goals: to run another 5k, to write a book, and to take Kathy on her dream trip to Italy--unless I can talk her into Ireland or Scotland. And apparently we have a place to stay in Norway!
This will be the final journal entry, but I'm grateful for this site. It was a great way to keep everyone updated on the journey, as well as to coordinate my many rides back and forth to treatments. Several times I went back and read your comments. Your encouragement strengthened me. Your prayers sustained me. Your love and friendship touched and humbled me. Words do not do justice to the gratitude and fondness that Kathy and I feel for each and every one of you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
