Bo’s Story

Site created on December 7, 2022

On November 25th, 2022 at 10:51 in the morning, our little tiny 32 week baby boy came into the world. Weighing only 4lbs 4oz and 15.5” long.  It was a roller coaster ride for us all.
He was taken immediately to the NICU where they started him on a C-pap machine to help him breathe, and an IV line in his umbilical cord for some extra  fluids.
He came around very quick, only needing the c-pap machine 2 days after birth. Then we got a little bit of jaundice and got put under some light treatment for only a day, and that all cleared up. Now we are just trying to regulate some blood sugars. Mainly managed at the moment with continuous feedings throughout his feeding tube. Which will be cut back little by little with his blood sugars remaining stable.  With that being said, they were able to take out his IV from his umbilical cord.
With him only having left is his feeding tube, which is amazing for a baby born that early. Next we work on oral feedings once he fully is able to keep blood sugars stabilized on his own.
Bo is now able to wear clothes, since he is able to control his own body temperature.
One day at a time. Big Brother Bentley unfortunately can not go up to the NICU at this time to even visit. So the boys won’t meet until little Bo can come home.
Nick and I are just revolving around this new life we are living between work, home, Bentley and the hospital for Bo.

Our baby is 6lbs!!!! Bo’s blood sugars have been doing good with them cutting back time off of his continuous feedings. They are still bumping up his food intake each feeding as well. He’s a big boy now and needs extra snacks to keep those cheeks nice and squishy.
2 of the labs from Mayo came back completely normal, just waiting for a couple more to get done in the next couple days.

they said today if he ever looks like he wants some more food, that we can start giving him a bottle now too!! Which is huge! Bottle feedings will get us closer to getting him home.

before he’s able to have only a bottle, his feeding tube feeds need to be completed in 30min. His feedings right now take 2hrs and 15min. So we have a little ways to go, but making progress daily.
