Journal entry by megan haigh

I got to Cedar Rapids Saturday morning about 1015. Mom was sleeping in her chair. Even when I held her hand and talked to her I could barely get an eyebrow raise. She spoke very little and it was incoherent. The Hospice nurse came and we decided it was time for her to have a hospital bed. She was unable to stand. Her vital signs suggested she was in pain and she refused to eat or drink anything.  Mike came up and we started giving her morphine every few hours.

Sunday she remained the same. Mike brought Vivienne to see her because she wanted to say good-bye. That evening Akio came with his family and their Pastor. We prayed, read bible verses and the pastor sang to her, the same song I sang to my dad before he died.  They left, and not 10 minutes later she took her last breath.  She looked so peaceful.  It was incredible.

We are working on funeral arrangements. I will post them with her obituary when decisions are all settled.
