Maraike’s Story

Site created on February 13, 2023

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated about Maraike’s bone marrow transplant. Maraike has a rare blood condition called Sideroblastic anemia. It’s something we first learned about when she was a baby. Over the years, hematologists at Children’s Minnesota have monitored her blood counts and we are also current participants in a study at Boston Children’s hospital.
Deep down we always expected it to come to transplant. Once Maraike’s hemoglobin fell to where she needed transfusions it was a clear sign it was time. Now we are here. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visit!

Journal entry by Chuck Fortin

Pretty depressing that we’re back at Masonic as of late Sunday night.
Maraike had a low grade fever so the regimen is IV antibiotics and close monitoring. Needs to be 24 hours without a fever in order to go home. Maraike’s pretty upset so please send the positive vibes.
