Dear Friends and Family,

For those of you who may not have seen the Roanoke Times and Virginia Tech tributes to Bob, below is  the link to each of these:

And since many of you have asked…

A public Celebration of Life for Bob will be held on June 5, 2021 at the Hahn Horticulture Garden Pavilion on the Virginia Tech campus from 2 to 5pm.  Guests are asked to arrive starting around 2pm and remembrance events will begin around 2:15.  Afterward, guests are invited to share light food and drink and their memories of Bob.

Very limited parking is available near the Pavilion, on Garden Lane.  More parking is available in lots near the Food Sciences Building on Washington Street.  From those lots, cross Washington Street to find a walking path into the Garden, and on to the Pavilion.  A campus parking pass is not needed on weekends.  You are welcome to bring and wear a mask.

In you wish to make a donation in his memory, there are several options.

Bob suggested your choice of:

  • Women’s Resource Center of the New River Valley, 1217 Grove Avenue, Radford, VA 24141
  • Town of Blacksburg’s Department of Parks and Recreation, 615 Patrick Henry Drive, Blacksburg, VA 24060
  • A charity of your choice

Also, local friends of “Storyman Bob” have started a program to provide funds for organizations to purchase children’s books. The book club to which Debby belongs has created a bookplate with Bob’s picture and inscription saying “A Storyman Bob Book”, which will in each book. You can donate directly to your choice of:

  • The Children’s Garden, PO BOX 10955, Blacksburg VA 24062
  • Valley Interfaith Childcare Center (VICCC), 948 Heather Drive, Blacksburg VA 24060
  • Blacksburg Library, 200 Miller Street, Blacksburg VA 24060

He also requested that, if you are so inclined, you perform a random act of kindness in his memory.

I miss him so very, very much, as I am sure you all do.  Hope to see many of you at the Celebration next weekend.

Love,

Debby.
