Journal entry by Laura Nilson —
As you know, 3 years ago today, Bob was diagnosed with Stage 4 Renal Cancer. It started in both kidneys and metastasized to his brain, liver, and left lung.
It's been a long time since I've posted, and I apologize for that.
Bob has had treatment once a month since diagnosed. It's been a roller coaster ride of good news/bad news. Fortunately, more good than bad.
Just over a month ago, Bob had a seizure. It turned out to be unrelated to the cancer but at the time, some of the doctors thought it had spread, "throughout his brain and stomach". That was not true, thank God, but is an example of the ups and downs so many cancer patients experience.
Today, his oncologist told us there is no sign of live cancer. They're going to watch him carefully, but have stopped all treatments.
We are both stunned and so very grateful.
We know not everyone is so blessed. We pray for those fighting the same fight. Don't lose hope - it's possible to beat this evil disease.
We've had so much company on this journey. Family, friends, even strangers. You have prayed for us, fed us, cheered us up, and cried with us. You were there in every way possible.
We know how fortunate we are and will never stop being grateful for each and every one of you.
Sending thanks and love,
Bob and Laura
