Bob’s Story

Site created on May 23, 2018

Hello family and friends, last Thursday (May 17th) I was diagnosed with Acute Leukemia.  I had a doctors appointment a few weeks ago and had the regular routine blood test, and sure enough my numbers came back unfavorably.   I had absolutely no symptoms.   That led to more blood tests and a bone marrow biopsy which told the Oncologist my issue.  I checked into Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center on May 18th and hear I remain.  I can tell you that the team of doctors, nurses and other team members are truly outstanding people.   I'm going to be here for a while and thought I would set up a way for people to find out my status.  Do remember to get your annual physicals!

People have asked me for the past few years "how are you doing Bob?" and the standard answer I have given is that I have been truly blessed in my career and in my life.  I have a wonderful family, (including our dog Frasier) , live in a wonderful town called York, ME and love my occupation and the people I work with.  I have wonderful siblings and my mother is one of the utmost blessings in my life.  All of this  hasn't changed one bit since last week's diagnosis.  I remain equally as blessed and am prepared to offer my suffering to Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior.

Thank you to you all for all of your thoughts and prayers.  They give me the strength to fight this battle.

Blessed be God forever!

Family, Friends, Colleagues,

I had a battery of tests when I was in the hospital recently- an echo-cardiogram with bubbles, EKGs, a CT scan, an EEG, blood tests, etc.  At this point, the doctors don't really know exactly what it was or what caused my little episode recently.  The doctors do not believe it was a major event with any permanent damage or problems.  I feel great, back to my normal self.  I had my best Dr. appointment on Tuesday of this week.  My numbers were excellent, my rash is gone and no more itching.  Rather than weekly appointments at Beth Israel, I now go every two weeks!  Eventually that will move to once per month.

I'd also like to share with you all a reflection from Joyce on our time at Deacon House. It's beautifully written, and it includes a number of photos from our stay. Here is the link:

I hope that everything is well with all of you!

Blessed be God forever!
