Newest Update

Journal entry by deobrah dye

Today marks 6 months if you go by the date of the 19th... last Saturday would also count as 6 months or if you count by every 4 weeks its like 6.5 months.  But it's great to write we made it to the 6 months mark.

Bob is doing really well, knowing what I know, what I saw in the numerous brain scans and the amount of damage done to his brain.  He still has another 6 months of healing, as there is still risk for seizures (hence no alcohol.)  But he is well on his way! He may always be a little different, but in time, what I see may just become Bob (the new Bob as I like to say).  He's face does ache at night and he says he can feel the screws and plates and it becomes a constant battle of trying to ignore the discomfort.  I am told the plates can shift, everything the skull, etc is still healing.   A week back we went to a charity event downtown.  Numerous people and then we watched a film in a dark theater.   It was not a long event, nor a long movie.  But something about the amount of people, the many conversations, and the film in the theater had a negative effect.  Bob ended up with a significant headache and he said it was just weird when he was watching the film.  I am unsure if it was the lighting, the sound or what (maybe it was all the above.)  But I was glad he recognized it, talked to me about it.  It will be interesting to see if he experiences this again if we go to a movie theater. It's things like this we shall be aware of and see what becomes of them or not in the future.

I mentioned weeks ago I would let folks know how things were regarding shooting a gun.  Bob just got back from pheasant and deer hunting and from what he says he had a good time and did well shooting.   He is tired, but he is always tired after a week of hunting.   So he accomplished what he said he was going to, and made sure he didn't miss his annual trip.  Once he sets his mind to it, it's been pretty amazing what he has accomplish.

So this will be my last journal.   I hope to get Bob to read all of them.  He has yet to want to or to see any pictures.  It's like he wants to forget. (there is some humor here, as he doesn't remember anything from May 19 through most of the summer, so he has forgotten; so to speak.)   I do understand, as I am anxious to start the new year and have this behind us too.  But, I don't see me ever forgetting but I hope I can "let things go" be more at ease in the upcoming months and years. (pertaining to Bob, his driving, activities, not knowing, etc. not thinking something could happen again.)

I will never be able to truly thank everyone who was there for us, starting on May 19th.  Friends, family, medical people who did so much for me, for us throughout the summer and beyond.  I say it again; THANK YOU!  Thank you for everyone who kept my Caringbridge page going.  Thank you for being with me during the last 6 months.  Thanks to those who also believed in Bob to keep their trips in the fall and allow him to do what he loves. And finally thank you for all the prayers.

LIFE IS GOOD.
