Journal

It’s been five days since chemo #2 began and so far I’ve been tolerating it well. The next five days will be challenging - but I’ll learn to manage and know I’ll get through whatever happens - row, row, rowing, gently down the stream. [A wise and lovely friend, who’s been battling a difficult disease (not cancer) for a long time, advised that a strategy key is to keep a slow, steady pace at home and at work.]

A few milestones reached...
- Thursday the 5th was the first day I worked while wearing the mobile pumping unit. No problem driving or working!
- I disconnected the pump for the first time. Removing the pump and flushing/removing the IV line to the port went very smooth. Eliminating an additional trip to the Cancer Center - fantastic! Not having to wait an additional day to shower - priceless!
- Had our first overnight guests at our new home last night. My good friend (...and son-in-law) brought my seven year old granddaughter over for some “camping out training.” She learned how to pitch the tent, helped cook the camp breakfast and watched how to break camp properly. She and Dad are ready for their upcoming camping trip in New Mexico.
LIFE IS GOOD! Life has always been good - it’s only my mind that tries to convince me otherwise. I can reflect like Mark Twain, “I am a very old man and have suffered a great many misfortunes...most of which never happened.”
