Journal entry by Jim O'Halloran —
Last one?
The 49 day journey has reached a new chapter....home. That’s right, Bob came home today. We got wind that this may happen over the weekend and held it tight to not “jinx” the plan.
Bob was discharged today and the first stop on the way home was DQ for a chocolate marshmallow malt. The afternoon was spent getting acclimated to the new town home and the smile was endless as he relaxed in his favorite chair.
Bob still has a regimen that can best be described as “exhausting” ahead of him. Dialysis three days a week, physical therapy, occupational therapy and continued speech therapy as this helps with short term memory. When the appropriate milestones are achieved, he will start in on the cardiac rehab that was originally to have started Feb 22.
But he is HOME and he gets to recoup from the comfort of his own surroundings. The plan will be to slowly layer in visits and would ask for your support and respect in that effort. He wants to see everybody RIGHT NOW, but the best strategy for his long term recovery would be to do this slowly.
His line tonight was “I shouldn’t be here”....of course we all disagree and are grateful for a few more moments watching the Masters, playing cards and telling tales.
