Journal entry by Bobbie Bajda —
Today, I took part in the weekly "Care Planning" meeting. My son Bruce also joined me. Summary reports were given by the Physical Therapy department, the Occupational Therapy department, the Speech Therapy department, the social work department (my cheery and upbeat mental health was duly noted), the dietary team (I will now only be served non-dairy, non-fat ice cream up to twice per day) and finally, the Medical staff.
I am making good progress in all the departments. The main concern is my low (and dropping) hemoglobin level. A blood sample was taken today and I should have the results back in 1-2 days. If my hemoglobin drops TOO low, then I will be sent back to the hospital for a transfusion of whole blood as well as for some more diagnostic tests to try to find where all my red blood cells are going.
Because I have so few red blood cells right now, I have to use supplementary oxygen and I can only walk a short distance before I feel totally exhausted.
If my hemoglobin levels stay at or above 7.0, then I will be discharged around May 29th back to my apartment at Maravilla.
Stay tuned for more updates . . . .
Love,
-Bobbie
