Blake’s Story

Site created on June 22, 2006

Welcome to our CaringBridge site. It has been created to keep friends and family updated about our loved one, Blake.

My Story is the introduction to our CaringBridge site.

Be sure to read the latest in the journal, view the photo gallery, and drop us a line in the guestbook.Blake is our 16 year old son. He had visited his girlfriend and was driving home when he had a car accident. He hit a dog that ran into the roadway. People who heard the accident (no eye witnesses) describe hearing the impact of the dog (apparently a stray), the dog going under the car, the car hitting the ground in the ditch and then hitting a pecan tree/stump. These "Angels" were with Blake within 30 seconds of the wreck, called 911, held his hand, told him to keep breathing and stayed with him until he left in the ambulance.

. We received the 911 call at 11:15 PM...did we own the car, who was the driver, an accident had occurred, meet the ambulance at the ER.

We were at the ER by 11:30 PM and waited almost 2 hours with little information. At the scene...a church van stopped, all passengers (ANGELS) got out, formed a chain in the ditch by holding hands and PRAYED... a response worker cut off part of his finger with a chain saw during tree removal..Dr. Hall and Nurse Georga Richardson went to the scene to help extract Blake from the car and save his life and leg.

Arrival at the ER confirmed he was ALIVE. with head trauma, leg trauma, etc. Surgery began quickly and lasted about 7 hours.

We saw Blake first on Father's Day. Recognized his hands and feet...little else due to massive injuries and swelling. The journey began......

Newest Update

Journal entry by Penny Woodward

Blake continues to make progress! After high school he went to work at our family business (we ship marching band shoes all over the country). He can actually pull an order, pack it up, and have it at the door ready to go. We are working on his independence. He has his own home across the street from us. He and his dog, Otis, spend the night there every night. He does his own laundry. He doesn't cook for himself yet. More than anything in the world he would love to be able to drive again. He has a valid license, but lacks the confidence. So...for Christmas we gave him driving lessons. We will see how it goes. When our youngest son, Brooks, graduated from high school we took a family vacation to Israel. At the wailing wall, Blake took a slip of paper and this was his prayer: "God, please give me good health and a good wife"! Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers...we know God has someone special for him one day.
