Romans 12:12 - "Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer."

I have been putting off writing this update because we didn't get the answers that we were hoping for from Mayo. I was discouraged at first, I went through all of this testing just for them to say that I will just continue to take meds for now.

Leah and I had a video appointment with my doctor at the beginning of February. We had been waiting for this call since our visit at the beginning of January. We were praying for some answers and solutions to my seizure problem. We got answers, but they weren't what we were hoping for. We were hoping that there would be an option for a surgery where they would locate and remove the part of my brain where the seizures are starting. This would drastically lower the chance of seizures if not completely remove them. This is directly my doctor in the post visit notes.

"We reviewed the epilepsy surgery conference proceedings with the patient and his wife today. The challenges in his case are we have recorded 2 seizures and while they both involve the right frontal region he has pathology in both the right and left frontal areas so we can not be completely confident that all his seizures are coming from the right frontal region. We also do not know precisely where in the right frontal region his seizures are rise that we recorded. If an extensive right frontal surgery was performed this would leave him with a damage left frontal lobe and he would be at risk for a frontal lobe syndrome. His seizures are reasonably controlled at present time. He is understandably concerned however about the prospect of a seizure while driving as his job requires driving at the present time. Nonetheless they were accepting of the recommendation to continue medication therapy at this juncture."

Although this news is disappointing we are so grateful to have doctors who are evaluating all of the options and truly care about us. We will continue to have periodic check ups at Mayo.

Our life has changed quite a bit in the past month. I started a new job with Duininck. I am now the planner/scheduler of the asphalt and aggregates division. This job requires me to be in Willmar two days a week but allows me to work from home the other three days. Leah will finish her running career this spring. She was offered a job as a high school Social Studies teacher at Sioux Falls Christian! I am so proud of her and we excited to start a new chapter of our lives in Sioux Falls this summer!  We are so thankful for all the prayers you all have sent us throughout this journey and we can't wait to see what the future holds for us!
