Journal entry by Nikki Roland —
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of William Edward Weis (Bill), age 73, of Kingman, AZ. Bill passed away on April 7, 2021 in his home surrounded by loved ones after a valiant battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
Bill was born May 29, 1947 in Austin, MN to Leo Weis and Mary (Dolan) Weis. He spent his younger years growing up in Austin, MN with his brother, Robert Weis and sister, Patricia (Weis) Schmidt. After graduating from Pacelli Catholic High School in 1965, Bill joined the Navy, where he served his beloved country in the Vietnam War, and was honorably discharged.
He was a force of nature and went on to live a full, productive, accomplished and exciting life. He was always passionate about cars and motorcycles and built, painted, showed, and bought and sold many over the years. The best conversations could always be had in the garage with Bill.
In retirement he enjoyed spending time with his wife, Kathy, and playing golf with his many dear friends.
With his million-dollar smile and infectious laugh, Bill joked that he always thought he would leave this earth in a big way…something they’d write about in the newspaper. Probably doing something fast, exciting, maybe a little dangerous, and very possibly in a car or on a motorcycle he had built and painted, but definitely in a way where people would say, “WOW.” As it turned out, he lived his entire life this way. “Better to Burn than Rust!” he would say.
He departed this life as a true warrior, with dignity, bravery, and strength. He left us all with stories, lessons, recipes, jokes, memories, and an important reminder that there’s always enough time to have a cup of coffee and talk awhile.
He will be missed deeply by the love of his life, Kathleen (Seery) Weis, his daughter, Nikki (Weis) Roland, son-in-law Nicholas Roland, step-children Jim Petersen and Marna Petersen, three cherished grandchildren, Bryce Roland, Sienna Roland, Trevor Petersen, and many other dear family and friends.
“Those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength, they will soar on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not grow faint.” – Isaiah 40:31
