Update on Bill
Bill and I have been home for over a month, and it has been a real challenge to get settled. The nurse was coming to dress the wound every other day when we first arrived home; however, she realized that the wound was infected and sent us to the Wound Care Clinic where we go twice a week.
OT and PT were coming to the house for therapy twice a week, but now they only come once as there is no advanced therapy Bill can do until the wound heals.
He is able to sit in the wheelchair for three hours twice a day, but then has to get off the wound and get back into bed to be turned every two hours. At night, I am turning him every four hours to ensure there are no more pressure wounds.
We were getting into a schedule and things were settling down a bit until last Tuesday when Bill came down with a high fever. He was shaking and his blood pressure kept plummeting. When I tried to sit him up, he passed out and it took a few minutes to get him back to full consciousness.
The ambulance brought him to the hospital, and he has a blood infection as well as a UTI. He was in ICU for two days and now has been moved to a room. The doctors are talking two weeks of IV’s for the strong antibiotics.
Bill is very tired and fighting to get better. He still has a wonderful attitude and is very positive. Both Bill and I thank everyone for the love and support.
