Wow. In for surgery to install a port so I can begin Chemotherapy. You are probably saying “wait, what?!?!” Yes, chemo. Please read on. So, how did I get here? Actually, by taking time with my physician and asking questions. Oh, and listening to my wonderful wife who had been prodding me to get a check-up for months. . . . . So, back to the doctor visit - I found a lump on my collarbone that I asked about. No other symptoms. After several tests, we found out in October that I have Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (a cancer of the lymphatic system). We discussed a plan of attack with my oncologist, Dr. Hsu, and determined that chemotherapy was the best way to get rid of this cancer. Timing for treatment was based on this not being very advanced. We chose to get chemo started in March after several important events like the KISD FFA Rodeo and Auction, Chili Cook Off and the Krewe of Katy Coronation Ball, just to name a few. Now that you are caught up, I began chemo on March 2, and will receive treatment every 4 weeks. Don’t know what side effects, if any, I will experience. My doctor feels that since I am so healthy and strong, and I have a very positive attitude, I will be just fine and my side effects will be minimal. I would like to ask for your prayers for healing and for comfort for myself and my family. Patti has been a rock for me. She has a journal and is keeping track of everything. Basically making sure we don’t miss anything. I have a favor to ask. What I really need, in addition to your prayers, is to stay busy and work will do just that.
