We wait with our sweet mama Betty Lou Brown at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in the wee hours this morning, relieved that we can still hear her breath, touch her cheek and hands, speak loving words to her, know that she feels no pain and that she is resting peacefully. Our mother remains an angel on this earth at this moment, though she can no longer respond to us verbally. She has more than made up for it by the countless times over the past week that she has spoken the words "I love you" to family and friends, even caretakers who have attended her. This is not new for our mother. She is sweet, thoughtful, loving and kind to everyone. She always roots for the underdog. She thinks the best of a person. She forgives a million times. She has a curious mind, has been savvy in business, and loves to cook for you (as a friend says: the best butter beans and pound cake in the world). The Golden Rule is her motto. She enjoys getting dressed up, but she is not vain. She is proud and protective of her family. She loves the Lord. So we wait, not anxiously but with hope and faith.
