Journal entry by Karen Schonewise

Betty continues to show incremental progress—mainly with dexterity and neurological function which is so wonderful as we had been told that it is rare to have improvement after about 9 months post-stroke. She will remain confined to her wheelchair as she won’t regain use of her left side. She still needs reminders to speak loudly. Just ask her to take a deep breath and repeat what she said. The deep breath really helps her project her words.

Mom is now lucid more often. She still has times of confusion and delusion but those have become less frequent. You may have heard some wild stories as she has come up with some real zingers!

We have added a guest book to her room and would really appreciate it if her visitors would sign in as she doesn’t always remember who was there to see her when we ask.

And if Betty is sleeping when you stop in, please wake her! She can sleep anytime and really loves to see her visitors.

Thanks to all of you for being so good to her. She enjoys seeing you and feels the love from everyone.
