Journal

Hello, friends. Today's visit with the radiation oncologist resulted in plans for my radiation therapy to begin Monday, 4/1 -- so maybe the joke's on me! Then again, maybe not. So I got scanned and marked and stickered in preparation for the tractor beam to target me and take me, warp speed, into Healthy Zone. Julia says 2019 is the best year to be alive with cancer, that treatment has never been better (thus the space talk). So I'm trusting her --with advice from her friend Lydia-- to guide me into this new phase.

The radiation will take five weeks, five days per week. As many of you are aware, I will probably experience discomfort to the skin and fatigue. When the therapy ends, I will be prescribed a daily medication which will inhibit estrogen growth, decreasing the possibility of cancer developing due to that hormone's influence. Apparently, the side effects of that phase of the therapy resemble the extremities of menopause. I will take the medication for five years.

Five days a week for five weeks, then every day for five years. This is the grimmest news I've had yet. Who wants to go through night sweats, hot flashes, and mood swings when you've already been there/done that? If you've gone through this, please get in touch with me with some words of wisdom and insight.

Trusting God -- not myself, medicine, doctors, or anyone else. Trust and rest.
