From Beth:

I’m happy to report that I’m back in Asheville. The doctors at Northside let me do a trial run of coming home last weekend, and it went really well. I really hit a wall last week with a lot of anxiety about just not being able to see my family (and my dogs). I talked it all through with my team at Northside, and we were able to work out a scenario where Brownie and I will drive down on Sunday, be seen in the clinic on Monday morning, and then drive back Monday once we are done with the appointment.

I’m obviously thrilled to be home. Things are quite different than when I left back in August. Elliot is driving to school. Tess is away at college. It’s wonderful and a little weird. I’m very aware that things can go sideways, but the further away I get from the transplant, the less likely that becomes. I’m still hyper-vigilant about watching for signs of infection and Graft-versus-host disease. It’s still very much one day at a time. But as of right now all the reports are pretty good, and I’m settling in to this new routine and trying to take it easy.

Brownie and the kids have done an amazing job of holding things together while I was away. I’m grateful that I can slowly slip back into the roles of mom and wife without too much pressure. Your prayers and gestures of support have been so instrumental in helping me get to this point. I’m still a little stunned that, (knock wood), the hardest part may very well be behind me, and there is actually some normalcy in my future. I’m anxious to get back to work, but I’m aware that my body is still healing. I will have a lot to process and work through, but things are moving in the right direction and for that I’m so deeply grateful.
