Journal entry by Kim Vollinger —
On Friday May 1st, Bernie finally returned home! The day proved exhausting from getting up at 7am and not settling in at home until 7pm that day. A home health nurse was there to greet him on Friday and another came back on Saturday for an evaluation. Bernie still has two drains in his hip and continues on IV antibiotics. On Monday, two more nurses arrived to take blood and run cultures. He returns to the hospital twice this week for follow up appointments. Bernie thinks things will improve rapidly once he is free from the labyrinth of tubes in his body. He expects that he will continue with therapy for an additional six to eight weeks. Bernie can feel all of your prayers and well wishes and sincerely thanks everyone for the support, cards, and messages.
