Ben has showed such courage through out the past 2 1/2 years. We are incredibly proud of him. He is determined to
not let this horrible disease get the best of him.
Today is officially Day 1 of Ben’s hospital stay. It is the 1st day of his journey to beat HLH for good.
We arrived at 1:30 pm & got settled into his room by around 3:00. The room was prepped & decorated by a non profit organization that does this for kids that have long hospital stays ahead of them. What a great cause. Ben was so tickled when he saw the room & how it was specially decorated just for him.
The BMT section has 5 rooms which separated from the rest of the hospital rooms. There are 2 other BMT patients now. We met the doctor & nurses who will be caring for Ben. We know that there are a number of uncomfortable side effects that can appear while Ben is getting his chemo. We just don’t know how severely he may be affected because everyone reacts different. Ben’s stem cell transplant date is scheduled for 2/26. A whole different set of unpleasant side effects can arise at any time following his transplant. Ben has been praying for a long time to get through the BMT procedure with as little adverse affects as possible. How he talks to God every night before he goes to bed is so soothing to his soul & peaceful. I know that prayer has played a key role in his handling of this disease.
Robin will be keeping a journal in a new Facebook page that she’s setting up in the coming days. “Ben’s Brave Journey” or something like that.
We ultimately would like to have a way for all of Ben’s family, friends & every person who has been praying for him, - get updates on his progress. As well as send Ben any well wishes & words of encouragement.
