Ben’s Story

Site created on August 8, 2021

Hello family and friends.

Early last Tuesday morning, Ben along with three of his friends were involved in a very serious car accident in Newark. The friends up front were injured but thankfully the injuries are not life-threatening. Unfortunately, Ben and one of his best friends, Ryan, who were in the backseat endured the worst of the injuries. They are both currently in the ICU at Christiana Hospital.

Ben has faced some challenges that the nurses say are associated with being in the ICU but he continues to fight! There have been many early signs showing that he is going to give it his all and come out on top! Ben is such a strong guy but will take time to heal so any thought or prayer means everything!

Ryan continues to make great progress which everyone is thankful for!

Watching everyone come together in the waiting room goes to prove how special and loved the boys are. It’s truly heartwarming to see families and friends come together knowing they can lean on each other.

Every gesture of support from the baked goods, to the meals, the phone calls/texts and any prayer or thought has not gone unnoticed.

Kelli, Zach, Alicia, Jack, Brandon, Erica and Caroline can’t thank everyone enough for the love and support they have been shown and continue to receive on a daily basis.

It is hard to put into words the gratitude that goes out to every single first responder, nurse and doctor that have continued to show compassion, patience and professionalism while providing the absolute best care to two special guys. Our families can’t thank each and every one of them enough!

Ben, as your Mom has said: “You are so loved by many. This is an all in journey and you will never walk alone! We are ALL in this with you”

YOU’VE GOT THIS BEN AND RYAN!!

Hello and Happy 2022.

It’s been a while since my last post, but there’s more to share . Ben was discharged from Brynmar with an rx of OT/PT closer to home. He had been settled at home with that routine and follow up appointments at CCH.

Unfortunately or fortunately, an ultrasound showed a pseudo aneurysm in is groin area. Surgery took place to repair that , however, not much later another test showed a leak in that area. Ben has had two additional surgeries/procedures in the past three days to correct that . Toss in a touch of Covid on that - well, you can only imagine. Ben is currently resting and recovering at CCH, but can’t have visitors and spent both Christmas and New Years in CCH. Doctors think he will be in the hospital for another week.

Ben’s keeping the course and trying to be positive despite everything. Please keep him in your prayers for strength, recovery and healing. We all want him to be home and back on track to therapy and life outside of the hospital. He was able to see friends and family before this and our prayers are for that to happen again soon !

We appreciate all of you! We  hope 2022 is a better year for everyone.
