Bekki’s Story

Site created on February 20, 2024

We just finished first appointment at MD Anderson.
This place is incredible.

Her oncologist ordered a bronchial scope in order to get a biopsy from the small mass in her right lower lobe. He is hopeful they can also biopsy the lymph nodes on its way to the mass.

This is scheduled for next Tuesday at MD Anderson. Results take 3 weeks. She is free to go home after the scope. With this biopsy they will be able to decipher which DNA mutation is responsible for her cancer. There is a 50-60% chance, since she does not have a history of smoking, that it will be a gene that responds well to something called targeted therapy. These are pills that target that specific gene mutation to rid her body of the cancer or reduce it so that another treatment becomes effective. This is what we are hoping for.

If the mutation is not one that will not respond to targeted therapy, the other treatment option would be immunotherapy or chemo or combination.

The people who are over mom’s case were fantastic, warm and so assuring! ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you so much for loving our family well!!!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Abigail myrick

Hi everyone!! I just wanted to make a quick update.
Mom is tolerating her chemo well.  Her cough has dramatically improved.   She has not needed to be drained again, which typically would have been necessary every couple of weeks 🙌  Her color and her energy are improving daily.
Next appt with MDA will be May 28, at which time they will scan to see if the tumor has responded to the treatment.
Your support and your battling for Mom in prayer has carried us…  we are incredibly thankful ❤️
