Hello to Rebecca’s extended family! We are amazed how many friends are out there and we thank you for your patience as we figure out a way to let all of you know how she is faring in this sea of trouble. It has been 3 days since the accident. Much has happened yet it feels like a snails pace.
Becca is in John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore being cared for by the best team of doctors and nurses we have ever seen. Her injuries are great and recovery will be slow. The majority of her injuries involve trauma to her head . She is getting CAT scans regularly and also angiograms .
Becca is deeply sedated and does not know what is occurring to her. This sedation gives her brain time for the swelling and pressure to subside.
Steve and I spend our days meeting with medical teams and the rest of the time we talk to her, read books to her, rub her feet and watch for her to react to anything. Any movement is celebrated and encouraged. She does not like being poked and prodded and lets us know by pulling away from the annoyance. Her recovery is going to be slow so as much as we imagine the scenario of her eyes flying open and her sitting up demanding food , that will not occur. Things will happen v e r y s l o w l y. So we are prepared to wait. We are planning to move temporarily to BALTIMORE so we can oversee and support her care. We will make entries into this log when there is something to report which may not occur everyday . We have been entered into a Marathon and we will win this race. I repeat, we will win this race and Becca will cross the finish line victorious. We will win this race surrounded by your love which we desperately need so keep it coming. I hope to add photos of Becca that you will enjoy and as we get accustomed to making entries perhaps we will become more creative in sharing what is happening and also sharing parts of Beccas life you would enjoy hearing about.
Thank you for being here. We love you all. TO BE CONTINUED.....
I'm back with one more shout out. I am going to ask again if anybody has a sweet, funny, beautiful, serious, entertaining story to share with all of us on Saturday. I know the stories are out there but you need to be comfortable enough to tell it to many of Becca's friends, families, neighbors and the list goes on. Please let me know if you would like to speak. We all want to listen and remember. My email is ann.lockwood@gmail.com.
Patients and caregivers love hearing from you; add a comment to show your support.
