Journal entry by Bart Haddy

One month ago today, on December 30, 2021, Deanna lost the love of her life.  Bart's battle with acute myeloid leukemia came to an end at 12:29 pm.  That day was a scheduled appt with Hall Perrine followed by the Healing Center, but we didn't get to either one. Bart was still in bed when Deanna arrived home on that Thursday. When Bart went to get up, he said his legs were stuck so Deanna helped pull covers off and move his legs around.  He got his zip up sweatshirt on and shoes on with Deanna's help.  She asked if he needed the wheelie walker, Bart said no just his cane.  Deanna went out, started the car and backed it out to warm up.  When she came back in to put on Bart's coat, he was leaning over on the back of the couch.  Deanna ran back to get his walker for support, got him seated, but his eyes were glossy.  Deanna kept talking to Bart, calling his name while she called 911.  It seemed like it took forever especially with the front door locked, Deanna kept hollering to come in the garage.  Once the EMTs arrived, Deanna gave them the orange placard that Bart had filled out only a few weeks earlier stating Do Not Resuscitate.  There was nothing more they could do.  The next few hours were just a blur, calling Fr Fred, and Mom.  The next day, Friday, Dec 31 was spent at Cedar Memorial writing the obituary, planning for the visitation on Monday, January 3rd at Cedar Memorial Chapel State Room, and the funeral on Tuesday, January 4th at St George Orthodox Church.  No one is ever prepared for the loss of your loved one.  Only you can take one hour, one moment, one day at a time along with the loving support and care of family and friends. Bart--may your memory be eternal.
