Journal entry by Chris Breneman

Hi Everyone!

Today was a bit of a hectic day. Before I start, I want to say this will be the last post on Caring Bridge. Our many thanks will be below. On to the day...

Today, Mom met with the physical therapist to go over what she needs to do once Dad gets home. Apparently Dad is walking better (still with a walker) and can go up 4 stairs and come back down 4 stairs. He is very winded and tired when doing so, but it is feasible.

That being said, Dad will be discharged on Thursday as originally reported last night.

I really don't want to go too much into it, but I will leave you with my Mom and myself are exhausted physically, mentally, and emotionally trying to advocate for my Dad. If I'm being honest, he shouldn't be coming home Thursday, but he is. My Mom and I have talked to the case worker, Dad's surgeon and staff, and I've reached out to Quality Assurance. They refuse to hear us out despite all of the advocating we are doing.

To let you know I'm not crazy, even Dad today asked my Mom how she was going to be able to do it all and he voiced his concern, however, the staff is ready to ship him out Thursday.

I'm thankful for the strides that Dad has made.

As for today, he was very tired and a bit confused when Mom came back in this afternoon (after being kicked out for an hour and a half because it wasn't visiting hours yet), but it seemed to just be fatigue and around dinner time Mom said he was joking around and singing to the nurses.

In a way, I'm thankful he is coming home soon. I know my Mom will take good care of him and will actually care for him.

As far as parting prayer requests:
  • Pray for Dad's complete healing. We don't expect him to run a marathon, but we want him to be able to be mobile.
  • Pray for Mom that she will have the strength and stamina to be able to do his physical therapy and keep up with him.
  • Pray for Thursday. Pray that Mom can get him in the house safely. My sister will more than likely help, but pray all will go well getting him in the house.

In conclusion, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for your prayers, texts, calls, messages, everything! We couldn't and can't get through all of this without you. You've been a huge encouragement to all of us! We all feel so loved.
