Good morning fellow Bard Battalioners!  I come this morning with some great news!  Don was discharged from the hospital last night and was able to spend his first night at home with his family in 47 days!  So what does this mean for Don and his fight against AML?  All it means is his ANC numbers are high enough to be able to come home, until we know what next steps are. Don will still be going to the hospital for blood and platelet transfusions during his hospital hiatus.  Next week Don will go in for another bone marrow biopsy to see if the last round of Chemo did it’s job. If it did, and the cancer is gone, they will schedule the bone marrow transplant. If not we are unsure what the next steps will be. Essentially, this little break will serve as a chance for the Bards to spend some quality time together, regroup and recharge for whatever happens next. So for our family this is a HUGE win. We are so happy to have him home with his family. And we just continue to pray that the results of the next bone marrow biopsy are cancer free!
So with this good news I also have a some disheartening news. Some of you may may know that Don’s dad passed away when he was 2 years old. He was an only child. Don was all his grandparents had left after that. From about the age of 19 Don has been taking care of his Grandmother. He has religiously visited her at least twice a week. Since Don was admitted his grandma’s health has deteriorated. Unfortunately, his grandmother passed way yesterday afternoon a few hours before he was discharged and able to say goodbye. Yesterday was a weird day. Don has definitely has been dealt a crap hand the last couple months. Please continue to keep him and the whole Bard family in your prayers. Continue to pray that next week’s test comes back good!  As always thank you for being you. I love you all!
