Journal entry by Barbara Acevedo Visser —
Today we finished my 20th and final radiation treatment!
I follow up in one month with the radiologist to check on healing from the radiation side effects. In mid-October, I follow up with the surgeon for a three-month post-op check up.
Generally I have done well with the treatment. Side effects peaked last week with a lot of skin discomfort (burns) and fatigue. Can’t remember the last time (if ever) that I have had daily naps! I felt better this week when we switched from full treatments to mini booster treatments directly to the site of the original tumor.
I consider myself healed and healing. I choose to believe (and the numbers back me up) that I am cancer free. I will be forever more vigilant.
Amador and the kids have been tremendous support and managed all the day to day needs so I could rest and keep up my part time work schedule (which helped me feel more normal and productive). It is a relief to have a break now, right before school starts. Daily trips to the hospital take a lot of T I M E!
Thank you ALL for your notes, calls, and support. I feel loved!
