Journal entry by Barb Thom

It's been a few months and a LONG journey since the last journal entry.

We are soooo happy to report that on January 3rd, mom was given the green light to return home!!! The past three weeks have been great and she is doing really well!! ❤️ And the latest bone marrow biopsy came back with great news--there is no sign of the disease at this time.

A brief recap of the past months:

The day after mom's last post, she had to go to the ER for a temp and difficulty breathing.  She was admitted back into the hospital and had a long 2 week stay. Around day 12 of this stay, they discovered she had an infection which they started treating. She was discharged on Nov. 4th but had to leave with oxygen.

The next 5 weeks were pretty challenging with a lot of setbacks and visits with cardiology, infectious diseases, pulmonology, and physical therapy.

Then on December 11th, she was readmitted for a third time into the hospital due to her low oxygen levels. They removed a LOT of fluid and worked on getting he oxygen back up. After an addition of various medications, mom was released 8 days later and was 100% better! She didn't need oxygen and could get around without a walker.

We would like to send a heartfelt thank you to EVERYONE who visited, sent cards and care packages, called and texted, and prayed while we were at the Hope Lodge,

Also a huge thank you to everyone at the Hope Lodge who made our time away from home as good as it could be in the circumstances. The staff and volunteers were amazingly caring!

A special shout out to all the other patients and caregivers who met along the way. xo
